Ohanaeze Ndigbo Condemns Political Sabotage Against Matawalle

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo sociocultural organization, has publicly declared support for Dr. Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, against what it terms a “campaign of calumny” allegedly orchestrated by Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji.

In a statement signed by Deputy President General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the organization noted that the accusations emerged shortly after military operations reportedly neutralized over 40 terrorists in Zamfara and Kebbi states under Matawalle’s direction.

“These allegations conveniently arise in the aftermath of notable military successes,” the statement read, suggesting the timing indicates possible retaliation from interests “benefiting from chaos and terrorism” in the affected regions.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo described Matawalle as a “detribalised Nigerian patriot” with a “resolute commitment to the safety and security of all Nigerians,” while emphasizing his efforts to protect Igbo communities across Northern Nigeria.

The organization claimed the allegations represent “a calculated attempt to undermine a dedicated public servant” and called them “an affront to the principles of democracy.” According to the statement, Igbo communities across the 19 northern states have expressed gratitude for Matawalle’s counterterrorism efforts.

“Dr. Matawalle’s diligent efforts in the battle against terrorism and insecurity have garnered unwarranted jealousy, petty blackmail, and frivolous intimidation,” the group stated, urging the minister to remain focused on security operations despite the allegations.

The statement concluded with a call for national unity behind officials working toward improved security, asking Nigerians to “remain vigilant against such political machinations” and for critics to “cease their disruptive antics and join the ranks of those committed to the greater good.”
